Nine individuals described by military authorities as India-sponsored terrorists were killed during intelligence-based operations in Balochistan. According to Geo News, citing the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the actions took place in the Kachhi and Wadh districts on October 26.

Geo News reported that the first operation in Kachhi district involved an exchange of fire that busted a terrorist hideout, leaving seven individuals dead. In a separate operation in Wadh district, security forces intercepted and tracked moving suspects, resulting in an intense exchange of fire and the killing of two more individuals.

The military's media wing stated that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the sites of both operations. ISPR added that sanitisation procedures were currently underway in the affected areas.

Background

According to Geo News, the operations were conducted following reports regarding the presence of terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Hindustan. The ISPR stated that the counterterrorism campaign operates under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam, which was approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan to eliminate foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.

Geo News reported that Pakistan has experienced a sharp rise in cross-border terrorist incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the return of the Afghan Taliban to power in 2021. The country recorded its highest monthly count of militant attacks in 12 years during September 2026. Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent its territory from being used for attacks inside Pakistan, maintaining that the Afghan Taliban regime has failed to take effective action against responsible groups.

Why it matters

For ordinary citizens across Pakistan, the ongoing security operations highlight the persistent threat of militant violence, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. With monthly militant attack figures reaching significant highs, the security measures and counterterrorism campaigns directly impact regional stability and the safety of communities living in affected provinces.
