Travel to the Kingdom has just become swifter for Pakistani citizens as the Saudi Embassy in Islamabad rolls out same-day visa processing. According to Geo News, the new facility is designed to strengthen bilateral business, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges.
The announcement was made by Saudi Ambassador Dr Rajeh bin Tami Al-Baqami during a meeting with Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik, as reported by Geo News. During the discussions, both sides explored avenues to deepen cooperation in the petroleum, mining, and energy sectors.
Geo News reported that Minister Malik conveyed the Pakistani leadership's solidarity and affection for the Saudi people, building upon discussions held during his recent visit to Riyadh with His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud.
Background
According to Geo News, the high-level meeting covered multiple areas of strategic engagement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Minister Malik informed the Saudi ambassador that Pakistan has approved a tax-neutral bonded policy benchmarked against international energy hubs like Singapore and Fujairah. This framework allows Saudi companies to establish commercial oil reserves in Pakistan without local tax liabilities.
Geo News reported that the arrangement offers an opportunity to diversify maritime transit risks associated with the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al Mandeb Strait while facilitating access to Asian markets. Additionally, plans were discussed to develop a major petroleum storage and refining complex at Hub, Balochistan, supported by Technip Energies UK, which would accommodate Very Large Crude Carriers. Minister Malik also thanked Saudi authorities at Yanbu port for prioritizing crude oil shipments to Pakistan during recent global market disruptions, and discussed coordination with Saudi Aramco for expanded crude oil and dedicated LPG shipments.
Why it matters
For ordinary citizens and business communities in Pakistan, the introduction of same-day visa processing removes a significant administrative barrier for travel to Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, the broader energy and petroleum cooperation initiatives discussed by the two governments aim to secure stable energy supplies and foster commercial partnerships, directly impacting trade channels and regional connectivity.
